To the people who want “Cyan in control”, that’s a bad idea. I mean, then Uru could be taken away again.

To the people who want the guilds in control… do you remember what happened last time they were in control of D’ni? Let me summarize…

EVERYONE DIED.

My lesson today was, there is good IC, and then there is IC that we ignore for our own personal goals such as running the guilds and telling people how to play with their toys.

I find this to be good information, as I am the head honcho of the Guild Of Guilds. Which is why I can sympathize with people like Alahmhat who want to run their own kingdom. Except as leader of the GOGU, I AM entitled to running everyone’s “kingdom”. All these people made their guilds and are getting whatever they want, therefore I see no problem with telling any of the guilds to report to me on all their activity, give me membership clothing to each group, all chatlogs of their own special meetings, you know… So I can print it out when I run out of toilet paper that I keep at my desk (so I can wipe my face after reading the MOUL forum) and all the other guild things that I should know.

I am the overlord of this community (sorry peeps but I called it), so I should be treated like one by ALL social groups. :P

    >While I’m both amused and pretty much unsurprised that you think my intention is to rule the kingdom and take a destructive “my way or the highway” attitude towards OpenURU (or MOOSE, or OSMO, or whatever we’re calling it for the next 5 minutes), I’ve already said in more places than I care to try and count that I want to contribute to a canon-friendly shard, as one of *many* options for getting into Uru. If you want to have a shard with admin KIs for everyone, a blue-tinted Ae’Gura, and rainbow-colored avatars, be my guest. I probably won’t join you, but I won’t stop you from doing it either. The proposed Guild-managed shard would be one of any number of available shards, and if we end up screwing the pooch with it, y’all can certainly take your toys and play in your own sandbox, ain’t nothing stopping you. However, I see no reason why the Guilds shouldn’t be allowed to have their space to play, just as we intend to let you have yours. After 6 pages of discussion on the MOUL forum, I would hope that the repeated statements by Guild members that we would not be overseeing anything but our own shard have been noticed.Strictly speaking, Cyan hasn’t opened the IP to Myst up at all with this announcement; even with the engine open-sourced, the content and concept that runs on it is still exclusively Cyan’s. While I’m sure that the engine will let you do any number of things with the existing material just as was done in UU, *new* development should, unless Cyan has something crazy up their sleeves, still be subject to the same Third Party Work agreements that Cyan has had in place for years. If Cyan is willing to take on the responsibility of reviewing all of those applications for TPWs, more power to them. If not, the Guilds are willing, and have been since Cyan requested our involvement in MORE, to step up to the task and manage the influx of new material. The basic rules for this process have already been laid out, in that content would be approved based solely on its stability, not its content or quality. The GoA would, under this entirely theoretical OpenURU fan-created content approval system, review approved content for canon compliance solely upon request by the creator, and if it fits in with existing material, will give it a stamp that canon-friendly shards can use to distinguish between fan-created content and fan-developed canon. While I am in charge of the Guild of Archivists, and have been for a considerable amount of time now (in which case it could be argues that I either preemptively started DPWR 8 years ago knowing that it would put me in a position of supreme power over the community, or that I started DPWR 8 years ago and got handed a thankless and honestly kind of shitty job by Cyan during the MORE planning stages for my efforts), I will not be the sole final arbiter of what fan content becomes extended canon and what doesn’t; heck, half the time I don’t even expect to be on the review panel.I’m not here to rule the world (that’s your job, as you’ve clearly called it, and I don’t feel like getting into a King of the Hill battle with you ;) ), nor am I here to tell anyone what they absolutely can and cannot do (I do advocate that people actually pay attention to Cyan’s IP usage guidelines, but hopefully such statements are taken as redundant). All I want to do is help to carve out a little niche in this massive block of potential that is OpenURU for people who want to focus on Cyan’s D’ni story and its expansion by fans, just as others are interested in carving out less restrictive and freeform niches where much more is possible and acceptable. These two ideas are not (nor should they be) mutually exclusive. Besides, why would I want to run this disjointed, schizophrenic nut-house anyway? I’ll leave that to you :) .And since I seem to rather demonstrably suck at detecting sarcasm on the intertubes, if you were being incredibly subtle in pointing out the absurd hyperbole of comparing the genocide of a fictional race of people to the potential fallout from a community’s often laughably ineffectual efforts to replicate that race’s distribution of labor and responsibilities, then more power to you. :)
